A surfer suffered minor wounds to his to his right arm after being bitten by a shark while surfing at Lake Worth beach, Florida, US on Sunday 24 September 2017.

According to the press report, the surfer and witnesses said the shark was engaging a school of bait fish and bit the surfer by mistake.

The surfer’s name was not released.

Another surfer in the water at the time said he saw what appeared to be an eight-to-ten foot shark just before the surfer was bitten. The shark species was not named.

Surfers in the water helped the shark bite victim to shore where he was treated by lifeguards and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue before being taken to a local hospital.

Billy O’Leary, 20, suffered a deep 30cm wound to his calf from a bite by a small bull shark while surfing 150 metres off Nobby Beach on the Gold Coast, Australia. The incident occurred around 5.05pm on Tuesday 20 March 2012.

A witness said he was lucky not to lose his leg with the bad bite near the ankle.

It is reported the surfer was doing aerials when he fell on the shark, which experts say was feeding on bait fish inshore.

He paddled to shore and a friend called lifeguards who were on the scene in minutes and managed to stem the bleeding before he was taken to Gold Coast Hospital in an ambulance. He was reported in a stable condition.

INJURED — Ponce de Leon Inlet, Volusia County, Florida, US – 17 July 2010 – surfer attacked

Jimmy Johnston, 55, was bitten on the foot by what is believed to be a small spinner shark that was chasing bait fish while he was sitting on his surfboard. He was surfing at Ponce de Leon Inlet’s jetty, Volusia County, Florida, US on Satuday 17 July 2010 when the incident happened.

He received minor lacerations to his foot and was treated at Bert Fish Medical Center.

No other details were reported.
